We are the Harambee Gardeneers

The Harambee Gardeneers club formed in 2011 to kick-off the East Lake Community Learning Garden. Anyone in the community could come out, have a plot and some plants, and start growing! We had a great first year, and would love to invite the rest of East Lake to come out and join us growing in our garden.

Welcome to your garden, East Lake!

Community Gardens are for the Community! Any resident of East Lake is welcome to come by and visit the garden, take classes, and even secure a plot to start growing with the guidance of Master Gardeners and Experienced Growers from the Southeastern Horticultural Society.

Grow Your Own Healthy Fruits and Veggies!

We’re here to help the city start growing, whether you live in an apartment and will do all your growing on your garden plot, or whether you live in a house and garden extensively already and you want to try new things with the help of experienced growers. There’s a place in the garden for you!

Save Money on Groceries and Sell Extra Produce!

Here at the garden we believe in growing things you can eat! If you don’t eat it right away, you can process it into jars as jams, pickles, and sauces for eating later. Don’t worry if that sounds like too much. You only do what you want to do, and we’re here to help you. Gardening is a great way to save money on your grocery bills. Producing your own fresh fruits and veggies each season can put a huge dent in the weekly grocery bills. Also, any excess produce can be sold for extra income, given to friends and family members, and donated to local food banks. Food grown in the community helps the community!
